How to apply Vinyl Lettering & Custom Printed Graphics
Many customers ask how to apply their custom vinyl stickers. Follow these easy steps to ensure you place your vinyl correctly and keep it free from dust or dirt. Avoid applying graphics in direct sunlight; the vinyl sticks immediately, which means you only have one chance to get it right.
Step 1: Prepare the Surface
Begin by cleaning the surface with a damp cloth to remove dust. Next, measure and mark where you want the vinyl lettering using masking tape. Stand back to check that everything is straight. Mark the vinyl’s top corners and top edge with additional masking tape and then remove the vinyl. Use these marks as guides when affixing the graphics.
Step 2: Mix the Solution
For easier positioning, mix a small amount of washing-up liquid in a bucket or spray bottle filled with cold water. Slowly peel the backing paper from the adhesive side of the graphics and spray it until the vinyl is evenly covered.
Step 3: Position the Vinyl
Gently place the vinyl in the desired position, aligning the backing paper with the inner edge of the masking tape. Once in place, use a squeegee or a folded card to push out the water from behind the vinyl, starting diagonally. Ensure you remove all air and water, and then run your hand over the graphics to find any remaining bubbles, which you can eliminate using the squeegee.
Step 4: Final Touches
Allow the vinyl to dry for 5 to 10 minutes, then gently peel back the application paper. Remove any masking tape markers, and wipe the area with clean water. Wait a couple of days before washing your vehicle to ensure the vinyl adheres properly.
